7 great Easter holiday activities by train

Hop on the train this Easter, with kids travelling half price (5-15yrs old) and under 5s free. With so much happening across Devon and Cornwall, here are seven of our top picks.

Creature Easter Trail at Cotehele

Sat 5 – Mon 21 April 2025, 10am – 4pm

Embark on a family-friendly trail packed with fun activities celebrating the wildlife of Cotehele National Trust. Follow the 10 activity stations scattered around the garden, spotting hidden eggs along the way to claim a chocolate reward. Normal admission applies, plus £3.50 per trail.


Easter activities at The Box

Tues 8 – Fri 18 April 2025

Celebrate Easter with a mix of storytelling, dancing, and creative fun! Between Tuesday 8th and Thursday 17th April, unleash your creativity with Bloom and Grow, designing biodegradable plant pots and seed packets. On Saturday 12 April, dance at a Family Silent Disco, grooving beneath the Royal Naval ship’s figureheads. Then, on Friday 18 April, join children’s poet Jane Newberry for Tell Me a Story Special: Easter Bunny Rhymes.


Easter Egg Trail and storytelling at Newquay Zoo

Sat 5 – Sat 26 April 2025

Grab your trail sheet (50p donation) at the entrance and set off on an egg-citing adventure around the zoo! Track down hidden eggs, crack the secret word, and claim your prize. Plus on selected dates join the Easter Hare on the pavilion lawn for a hilarious storytelling session uncovering the real (and surprising) story behind the Easter Bunny – turns out, it’s actually an egg-laying hare!


Nature Unmasked at Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery

Sat 5 – Mon 21 April 2025, 10:30am – 3:30pm

Get crafty and creative this Easter with Nature Unmasked! Immerse yourself in Cornwall’s wildlife in the new-look gallery designed in collaboration with Cornwall Wildlife Trust. Make your own animal mask, dress up in nature-inspired costumes, and enter a drawing competition. No booking required – just grab a museum ticket (£10 for adults, free for under-18s).

Tues 8 – Wed 16 April

Sculpt and decorate your own clay pot (Tues 8 April), check out a cheese-making demonstration (Wed 9 April), join storyteller, poet and potato juggler Clive PiG – pictured – for tasty tales of Devon (Thurs 10 April), make a wiggly fish (Tues 15 April) or try your hand at basket weaving (Wed 16 April). The Cornish Caretakers and the Treasures of Cornishness at the National Maritime Museum

Sat 5 – Mon 21 April 2025, 11:00am, 1:00pm & 3:00pm

Join The Cornish Caretakers and the Treasures of Cornishness for an entertaining Easter show packed with laughter and local history. This 25-minute performance follows the spiky Mrs. Trevaskis Trelawney Tremayne and the hapless Mr. Rodda Rowe Rescorla as they uncover Cornwall’s hidden treasures, legendary figures, and even a surprising natural habitat. Families can also enjoy Make & Take workshops and a museum trail.


Easter adventure quest at Pendennis Castle

Mon 5 – Sun 27 April 2025, 10am – 5pm

Take on an Easter Adventure Quest at Pendennis Castle! Solve hidden clues around the historic grounds and claim a delicious chocolate reward at the end. The quest runs daily throughout the school holidays and costs just £2 per child (in addition to admission). No booking required – just pay on arrival.
