Self-guided walks from Okehampton station

Walk one – Tarka Trail (easy)


A pretty 2.3-mile woodland and riverside walk that follows roads and signed footpaths (allow 1hr to 1hr 45min).  Other points of interest on this walk include the Dartmoor Railway Association Museum, a play area and an arched railway bridge.

Walk two – East Hill and East Okement River (moderate)


Enjoy beautiful views over Okehampton, the Moors, High Tor and Belstone on this 3.6-mile walk (allow 1hr 45min to 2hr 45min). As well as great views, there are also spots along the lower parts of the river that are suitable for paddling.

Walk three – Belstone Tor (challenging)


A challenging but rewarding 7.7-mile walk across Dartmoor’s moorland and tor (allow 3hr 45min to 6hr). With scenic views along the river, Higher Tor, Belstone Tor and Watchet Hill. There are also waterfalls and pools along the walk that are perfect spots for a picnic.

Take the train

Trains between Exeter St David’s and Okehampton run hourly each way, 7 days a week. YHA Okehampton is right opposite the station.

An adult Off-Peak return is £8. Kids travel half-price (5-15yr olds). Under 5s free.
