Family days out in Falmouth this half term – get there by train

Falmouth is the perfect family day out this half term – beat the traffic and get there by train on the Maritime Line. Here’s what’s on:

 

The National Maritime Museum

Silhouettes and Shadows (Mon 24 to Fri 28 Oct / 11am, 1pm & 3pm)
This October half term take to the spooky high seas for eerie songs and ghostly shadow puppet stories in the Museum’s Main Hall, Performed by Star Box Shadows, ARTiculate Collective and Wilderness Music.

Make and take (Sat 22 to Sun 30 Oct / 12.30pm – 3.30pm)
Make a spooky shadow puppet and create your own shadow puppet stories together.

Museum Trail (Sat 22 to Sun 30 Oct)
How many hidden shadows will you find on the Museum Trail? Find as many as you can and claim your prize.

The Silhouettes & Shadows October half term activities are FREE as part of the Museum’s annual admission fee. Pay once and get in free for a year.

Pendennis Castle

(Sat 22 – Sun 30 Oct / 10am to 5pm)

Gather your little monsters and prepare for a ghoulishly good day out at Pendennis Castle! Follow Dennis, Gnasher and friends to solve creepy clues on the fun family quest around the grounds. Then, meet their storytellers to hear tall tales of the strange, the supernatural and the downright silly! Seek out Fermont and Fiddler, the monster meddlers, to learn all about how to apprehend demons, werewolves, vampires and much more!

Get there by train

From Falmouth Town station, it’s just a 4-minute walk to the Museum and a 18-minute walk to the castle.

Adult Off-Peak Day Return fares:

  • Truro to Falmouth £5.10
  • Newquay to Falmouth £8.00
  • Plymouth to Falmouth £12.10

Kids travel half-price (5-15yr olds). Under 5s free.

Save a third off the above adult fares for you and a friend (with kids travelling for just £1) with a Devon & Cornwall Railcard – just £12 a year for local residents.
