Walks from Okehampton station

Okehampton station is a great starting point for walks - whether up on to Dartmoor or to explore the town and local area.

Hop on the Dartmoor Line from Exeter (hourly trains, seven days a week) and in approximately 40 minutes you'll be at Okehampton station, with its distinctive heritage feel and excellent independent cafe, the Bulleid Buffet.

7 MILES

A varied walk from Okehampton station through the wooded East Okement Valley to the village of Belstone (complete with award-winning pub) and back across the moor.

2.3 MILES

A great shorter walk for panoramic views across Devon and the highest peaks of Dartmoor. Before your walk enjoy a hearty breakfast at Okehampton station's great cafe, the Bulleid Buffet.

8.5 MILES

Visit the highest point on Dartmoor, and indeed in Southern England. Caution: The walk enters a military training area - see advice in our directions pack.

Enjoy this short walk from Okehampton station through the woods to Okehampton Castle. En route you'll pass through Old Town Park alongside the river, which makes a great picnic spot.

An attractive walk from Okehampton station into the town through Simmons Park (via steep and uneven steps). Then a countryside stroll back via Ball Hill woods.

Follow signposts from the station to join the Granite Way, an 11-mile multi-use trail that crosses Meldon Viaduct and continues all the way to Lydford. Walk the trail or hire bikes from Granite Way Cycles, opposite Okehampton station.
