Combine a visit to see Cotehele National Trust’s Christmas garland with a scenic trip on the Tamar Valley Line and a crisp riverside and woodland walk.
The famous 60-foot garland, crafted from a record-breaking 38,000 dried flowers grown on the Cotehele estate, is the largest ever displayed in the Great Hall! Thanks to an exceptional growing season this year, the garden team harvested an abundance of vibrant blooms – each one grown, picked, stripped, dried, and prepared entirely by hand.
This year’s garland will be on display every day until 5 January 2026 (closed 25–26 December), with visiting hours from 10:30am to 4pm.

Starting from Plymouth station, the scenic journey on the Tamar Valley Line takes you across the 120-foot-high viaduct (shown above), arriving into Calstock in just half an hour.
Once there, set off on a riverside and woodland walk to Cotehele (1.2 miles – steep in places) where you can explore the house (ground-floor only), gardens and the magnificent garland.

The Off-Peak Day Return fare from Plymouth to Calstock is £8.30 for adults. 5-15 year-olds are half price and under 5s are free.
Save a third off the adult fare for you and a friend (with kids travelling for just £2) with a Devon & Cornwall Railcard – just £13 a year for local residents. Now available to buy online.
