On Tuesday 2nd December, hop aboard the scenic Tamar Valley Line for a free guided winter walk (UPDATE: NOW FULLY BOOKED) from Bere Alston to Bere Ferrers via Weir Quay, led by local historian Clive Charlton.
As you wind your way through the frosty countryside, Clive will bring the landscape to life with tales from the valley’s rich past – exploring the history of these two charming villages and the stories hidden along the riverbanks.

Clive will greet walkers off the 10.28 train from Plymouth, arriving at Bere Alston at 10.51, ready to begin this 3.5-mile festive walk towards Bere Ferrers via Weir Quay.
Along the way, Clive will share fascinating insights into the Tamar Valley’s heritage — from its agricultural roots to its trading past — with plenty of opportunities to pause, take in the winter scenery, and enjoy a relaxed stop to enjoy your packed lunch (weather permitting).
Your walk will finish at the Tamar Belle Heritage Centre next to Bere Ferrers station, where mulled wine and mince pies will be waiting to warm you up before catching the 15.45 train back to Plymouth.
Please come prepared with a packed lunch, a drink, and sturdy footwear — walking boots or wellingtons are recommended for the December countryside!
Please note: dogs are not permitted on the walk.
This guided walk is free to attend, but you will need to buy train tickets as usual. Buy online or at Plymouth station.
