10 half-term activities in Cornwall by train

Half-term is the perfect time to get out and explore with the family, and there’s no shortage of exciting events happening across Cornwall and Plymouth!

From magical storytelling sessions to hands-on science fun, there’s something for everyone – and the best part? You can go car-free and reach each of them by train.


1. The Great Baldini, Penzance

2. Craft & Story Club, Redruth

Spark your child’s imagination with a magical morning of storytelling and craft at The Writers’ Block! Led by Jo Lumber, this fun-filled session blends creative tales with hands-on making. Tickets £10, with free bursary places available for families on income support. Booking essential.

3. Science of the Sea, Falmouth

Sat 15th Feb – Sun 23rd Feb, shows at 11:00am, 12:00pm, 1:30pm and 3:00pm each day

Hop on the train to Falmouth for The National Maritime Museum’s Science of the Sea – family fun with a BANG! Learn where energy comes from and witness explosive experiments in our science shows, get creative in Make & Take, and embark on a captivating Museum trail.

All activities are free to attend with no pre booking needed as part of the museum’s annual fee.

4. The Gruffalo, Truro

Fri 14th at 1:30pm and 4:30pm, Sat 15th at 2:00pm and 4:30pm

Join Mouse on a thrilling adventure through the deep, dark wood in this magical, musical adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved book, The Gruffalo. Packed with songs, laughs, and monstrous fun, this 55-minute show is perfect for ages 3+.

5. Heritage Activity Day, Luxulyan

Tue 18th Feb, 11:00am – 3:00pm

Step back in time this half-term at the Treffry Viaduct ‘What Remains’ heritage activity day. Enjoy storytelling, an archaeology scavenger trail and nature crafts at this historic Cornish landmark. Why not pair this with a circular walk from the station to take in Luxulyan’s fascinating mining heritage?

7. Teddy Bear Train, Bodmin Railway

10. Wings and Wonderful Things, Plymouth

Tues 18th – Fri 21st, 10:30am – 12:30pm & 1:30pm – 3:30pm

Brighten up your half-term at The Box with colourful bird puppet and mask making, inspired by the Carnivalesque exhibition and local birds.
