A family day out at Cotehele this half-term

Hop on the train to Calstock for a spooky family day out this October half-term at Cotehele National Trust.

What’s On

All of Cotehele’s half-term events are free to join. Spooky Scarecrows and the Harvest Celebration don’t need to be booked in advance. Please note that normal admission charges for non-members apply.

Spooky Scarecrows at Cotehele (Thur 24th Oct – Mon 11th Nov / 10:00 – 17:00)

See how many spooky scarecrows you can find hiding in the garden. Spot the scarecrows and read their stories from local folklore to solve the mystery. Pick up your free trail sheet from Visitor Reception.

Cotehele Mill Harvest Celebration (Sat 19th Oct – Sun 3rd Nov / 11:00 – 16:00)

Try your hand at seasonal crafts and help judge this year’s carved pumpkin display!

Spooky Storytime (Tue 29th and Thur 31st Oct / 10:15 and 11:30)

Listen as a spooky scarecrow reads scary stories in the Victorian library. Please note, you need to book your space for this event. Stories last for approximately 15 minutes.

Getting there

It’s a scenic 30-minute journey on the Tamar Valley Line from Plymouth to Calstock. Hop off and either grab some lunch in the village at The Tamar Inn (just a 7-minute walk from the station) or head off on a crisp riverside and woodland 1.2-mile walk (note: the path up through the woods is steep and uneven in places) to Cotehele National Trust.

Trains leave Plymouth every 2 hours. The Off-Peak Day Return fare from Plymouth to Calstock is £7.90 for adults, with 5-15 year-olds half price, and under 5’s go free.

Save a third off the adult fare for you and a friend (with kids travelling for just £1) with a Devon & Cornwall Railcard – just £12 a year for local residents. Now available to buy online.

Look up train times and buy rail tickets on the GWR website or app.
