With two trains an hour on the Cornish main line, head to Truro and try our seven top things to do on a day out in Cornwall’s capital:

1. Truro Cathedral

Truro Cathedral

Visit Truro’s gothic-style cathedral (free to enter, donation recommended). Attend a service, take a guided tour or listen to an organ recital.

2. Walking tours of the city

11am every Wednesday (until 23 October): Join Blue Badge Guides Dawn and Di for informative and entertaining walks to discover the secrets of Truro’s history and culture. Find out more and book.

3. Hit the shops

Explore big brand shops or wander the historic streets around the cathedral to discover the very best of Cornish crafts and locally made goods. Visit the Pannier Market, Lemon Street Market, the Farmers Market (pictured) every Wednesday and Saturday, or Truro Craft Fair every Friday (May-September). Truro is also fortunate to have many independent shops.

4. Virtual Reality adventures

Head to Player Ready (just 10min walk from Truro station) for a huge selection of virtual reality games for ages 7+. Facilities include racing simulators, flight simulators and two ‘Free Roam’ arenas for up to six players at a time.

5. Royal Cornwall Museum

Visit the Royal Cornwall Museum to discover Cornwall’s heritage and its links to the wider world. Running until 16 November they have an RNLI exhibition marking 200 years of saving lives at sea.

6. Victoria Gardens

Victoria Gardens is just a 7-minute walk from Truro station. Created to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, take in its exotic trees, shrubs and flowers.

7. Enigma Escape Room


Book in for a brain-taxing adventure! Enigma Escape Room is based in historic Lemon Street (just a 12min walk from Truro station). All their rooms are 1940s wartime themed, each with their own unique stories, puzzles and tasks to complete.
