The Industrial History of Calstock – walk from the train

This article is more than 1 year old.

This Sunday (20th August) join ‘Walks with History’ and the Tamara Landscape Partnership on a history walking tour through Calstock where you’ll explore Okel Tor Mine, the Roman Fort excavations and enjoy beautiful and far-reaching views of the Tamar Valley.

Times and details

Meet at Plymouth railway station at 10:45, ready for the train to depart at 11:10. Alternatively, you can meet on the train along the route at either Devonport (11:13), Dockyard (11:14), Keyham (11:16), St Budeaux Victoria Road (11:20), Bere Ferrers (11:27) or Bere Alston (11:36).

The walk is 4 miles long with flat, uphill and downhill sections and will go ahead regardless of the weather, so sensible walking shoes are a must. There will also be a short break, so please bring a packed lunch.

The train back from Calstock departs at 16:22, arriving into Plymouth at 17:00.

Cost

The walk is free other than the rail fare to get to Calstock – £7.50 Off-Peak Day Return from Plymouth station, or £4.95 with the GroupSave discount. If you are not meeting at Plymouth and joining from another station, you will need to purchase your ticket in advance or on board.

Booking

If you would like to join the walk please email: walkswithhistory@gmail.com. Please confirm your starting station in this email.
