Tamar Valley Line music train – 30th June

This article is more than 1 year old.

Take a train trip with a difference on the scenic Tamar Valley Line with the second of our music trains!

Friday 30th June

The Kit Hillbillies (pictured) kicked things off in style with our popular first outing earlier this month and now we’re back for more! Relax and enjoy the beautiful views from your train window as you’re entertained by fantastic live music courtesy of the Bere Ferrers Railway Band playing traditional tunes with a railway flavour.

Timings

Hop on the 18:38 train from Plymouth and enjoy great tunes, rolling countryside and the view from the 120ft high Calstock Viaduct as you travel up the scenic Tamar Valley Line.

The line ends at Gunnislake (arriving at 19:24). You then have two options. You can stay on the train for the journey back to Plymouth (departs 19:33). The band will play for the first half of the return journey before they alight at Bere Ferrers. The train arrives back in Plymouth at 20:18.

Alternatively, if you’d like to extend your night out, why not hop off the train to visit some of the great pubs along the Tamar Valley Line such as The Queens Head in Gunnislake (10 min walk from the station), The Tamar Inn in Calstock (6 min walk from the station), or get off at Bere Ferrers with the band and visit The Olde Plough Inn (9 min walk from the station).

All three pubs serve great food. Booking in advance is advised.

The final train departs Gunnislake at 22:22, Calstock at 22:34 and Bere Ferrers at 22:48. It arrives into Plymouth at 23:07.

How do I come along?

Simply turn up on the day (there are no seat reservations on the Tamar Valley Line, so it’s not possible to book in advance).

An adult Off-Peak Day Return ticket between Gunnislake and Plymouth is £7.50.

Save a third off the above adult fare for you and a friend (with kids travelling for just £1) with a Devon & Cornwall Railcard – just £12 a year for local residents.

Look up train times and buy rail tickets on the GWR website or app.
