Lydford – visit by train and bus

Visit the historic village of Lydford to discover its castle, delicious local food and famous Lydford Gorge.

It’s easy by train and onward bus. Take the Dartmoor Line from Exeter to Okehampton, then hop on the 118 Rail Link bus right outside the railway station.

PLACES TO EXPLORE
In our video, Aya and Charlie enjoy a delicious lunch at The Castle Inn, explore Lydford Castle (note: the keep currently has restricted access due to essential conservation work) and visit the deepest gorge in the South West with its spectacular 30-metre waterfall, Lydford Gorge. Since filming, the epic Devil’s Cauldron has also reopened at the gorge.

JOURNEY TIME
The train from Exeter St David’s to Okehampton takes 40 minutes. From right outside Okehampton railway station, the 118 bus to Lydford takes 21 minutes.

GETTING THERE
Trains to Okehampton depart hourly from Exeter St David’s and Exeter Central, seven days a week. Arriving into Okehampton, head to the bus stop right outside the station to take the 118 to The Castle Inn, Lydford. Buses are timed with trains every other hour (look up train & bus times).
