Marvellous markets to explore along the Tarka Line

This article is more than 7 years old.

The summer still seems to be in hiding at the moment so instead of heading to the beach this weekend, how about a foodie outing on the Tarka Line?

After a journey through beautiful river valleys and lush green countryside, the market town of Barnstaple has some treats for the foodie in you.

Barnstaple Pannier Market

Operating for 6 days a week throughout the year, the Pannier Market has a huge range of exciting fresh produce, local crafts, plants and antiques. The atmospheric building dates back to 1855, the same time as Butchers’ Row just next door to the market.

Butchers Row

This pretty parade of shops houses an artisan cheese shop, organic butchers, great delicatessen and bakery.

Barnstaple Real Food Market

Every second Sunday of the month, the Pannier Market is transformed into a farmers’ market and street food event.  Live music, local producers, exciting food to taste and the chance to sit back and enjoy the atmosphere over a cup of coffee. The market is open from 10am.
