Hit the beach in Teignmouth

This article is more than 8 years old.

Enjoy a traditional day at the British seaside as you explore Teignmouth’s long beach and grand pier.

Get there in as little as 25-30 minutes on one of the country’s most scenic stretches of railway, with direct trains from both Exeter Central (EX4 3SB) and Exeter St Davids (EX4 4NT). From Teignmouth station it’s then a five-minute stroll to the beach (map).

Off-Peak Day Return tickets cost just £4.30 (valid after 08 45 on weekdays or anytime at the weekend). 5-15 year-olds are half price, and under 5s free.

As well as having a paddle, back on dry land don’t forget to sample the food – with fresh, locally-caught fish a must-try at many of Teignmouth’s top restaurants. The town’s maze of backstreets also offer a treasure trove of independent shops, galleries and inns.
