Taking bikes

Taking bikes on the train

On the smaller trains that work on the branch lines, space can sometimes be tight. Great Western Railway (GWR) has a policy of a maximum of two bicycles per train, although this is up to the discretion of the train manager on the day. Find out more – including about cycle storage at stations – by reading their cycling page.

If you’re travelling on a High Speed Train (HST) or an Intercity Express Train (IET), you must reserve a space for your bike in advance – this applies even for short journeys. You can do this when booking your ticket online at GWR.com, at your nearest staffed station, or by phoning GWR’s Customer Support Team on 03457 000 123 (open 7am to 10pm daily).
